Lauren Potts Post 8- Field of Dreams Dr: Phil Alden Robinson

Field of Dreams

Director: Phil Alden Robinson

1989

Cute

“If you build it, he will come” this movie is about a farmer who hears a voice to build a baseball field that eventually becomes a place where the Chicago Black Sox players come to play baseball.  In order to get a sense of the field and the players playing on the field wide shots and pans were used so the viewer can take it all in.  In the beginning of the film it shows mostly Ray building the baseball field.  Longs shot were used in place of close-ups to show Ray emotion in build the field.  A particular two shot that I liked was with ray and terry. Ray is at terry house but Terry has not let him in.  On one side of the door Terry is speaking to him and the other side Ray is speaking.  I like the dived that is in this two shot, old vs. new.

The movie was touching to see the African-American baseball players play the game that they love so much that was taken away by them.   The movie teaches me to have faith and believe things.  Even when they don’t start out good (like ray and his field) maintaining faith will ensure the dream.   You don’t always have to have a plan to do something great.  All you need is an idea to plant the seed and watch it grow.
