Boyz N The Hood
1991
Director: John Singleton
This
film was one of my favorites that I’ve had to watch for this project. The movie
was funny and pretty realistic as portraying the “hood life”. The way the
actors act in the movie and the scenarios are everything you would typically stereotype
them to be. The stereotype reaches from their lingo, to smoking cigarettes
inside, trash everywhere, and sirens sounding nonstop.
In
the beginning of the movie, the kid exploring the ghetto was more of an
establishing shot. It portrayed the hood to be dirty, poverty struck, and crime
ridden. I found that much like in Father of the Bride, some of the music was
much too loud. It took away from the actual scene of the movie. Some of the
music is typical rap that you would hear, which I felt went along great with
the movie, but some of it was more like elevator music that annoyed me.
Overall,
I thought that this was a great movie from 1991. The music was the only thing
that really bothered me. I would definitely recommend this movie to others. The
quality of the movie was very good.
