Amy Petter-Hot Shots!(1991) Post 10

Amy Petter
Hot Shots!
Director: Jim Abrahams

Hot Shots has to be one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. I didn’t know it was supposed to be a parody of Top Gun and Gone with the Wind. I haven’t seen either of those, so I have no idea what they’re about. I saw that Charlie Sheen was in it, so I rented it. I really thought anything with Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer would be hilarious.
The film looks like it didn’t have a very big special effect budget or enough planning. The stunts are beyond pathetic. Everything was filmed rather poorly. When the plane was flying low in the city, you could tell that it was a toy plane on a string or something. In the beginning, the woman on the horse jumped up and started using the tree branch as an uneven bar. I think that you weren’t actually supposed to see the bar, but you could clearly see it behind the tree branch.
The movie was strange. I just didn’t understand the humor in most of it. The doorbell on the teepee was rather stupid. Also, in multiple scenes in the movie Charlie Sheen sits on the same hairless Chihuahua. The humor was more slapstick than anything, which can be funny if done right. The sound effects were just stupid. They didn’t even make sense to what they were supposed to be.
The majority of the scenes were shot as a medium shot. Most of the scenes didn’t have any variation as to the angle or perspective. There were a few full body shots, but not many.
Overall, I thought this movie was poorly filmed, poorly made, and just horrible. I don’t think that it could be anymore painful to watch.
