My Cousin Vinny

Director: Jonathon Lynn

Year: 1992

The film “My Cousin Vinny” is a well-made comedy based on two kids who are wrongly charged with murder and one of their cousins just happens to be a lawyer from New York. Some of the most important scenes shot for this movie are those shot within the courtroom. Most of these shots are medium shots going back and forth between the judge and the loud inexperienced lawyer cousin Vinny. During these shots is where you really get to understand the situation these boys on trial for murder are in. The medium shots of the judge are absolutely priceless as you see his reactions to the wildly inappropriate and unprofessional ways of cousin Vinny.

While most of the shots in this movie that were used are fairly basic, it is well fit within the film. Since most of the movie is filmed within the court, it is unnecessary to be too complicated with the shots. However, another shot that stood out to me was the ending when Vinny finally wins the case and they show a wide shot of everyone jumping up in excitement. After this they move to close ups and medium shots of everyone hugging and rejoicing at the win. This is meant to be the grand finale of the film, so the shot of everyone in excitement and then moving to more personal congratulations was a perfect way to show this.
